We Have the Best Weapon

Updated: May 19, 2020

The bible story of David and Goliath is a popular one with the students at

Kodiak Baptist Mission. They never tire of hearing about the underdog

coming up to claim victory for God.

We as adults often pass this story right by, but it was part of my daily

reading. As I read over the story something struck me as new (isn't that

such a wonderful part of reading the Bible).

“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands. As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.”

In the face of the struggle within our country and world we are not facing

it all with just worldly weapons. For goodness sakes all that we have to

offer is nothing to the surpassing greatness of our God. He and he alone

can do the impossible and he chooses to work through us each day. All we

need to do is pick up our stones, stick them in our sling and run to the

battle lines. Then, let God take care of the rest!
