HYPERPHAGIA
John 6:35
As the fall is ushered in, with the changing of the seasons, the air becomes crisp, leaves change color, falling to the ground, salmon race up rivers and streams, and bear focus on eating. During the fall season, bear eat and drink nearly nonstop. They can spend 20 hours a day doing nothing but eating. One salmon after another. Their focus is eating. A shift happens in the bear world during fall as
they move into hyperphagia. What is that you ask?
Hyperphagia is an increase in feeding activity driven by a biological need to fatten up before hibernation starts. Complete focus on preparing their body for the winter months ahead.
Their focus is amazing to watch.
Their eyes are focused and fixed on salmon that swim near, catching them with a practiced quick grab or pounce. Hours are spent in or near a stream, or river, doing nothing but eating.
Complete focus. Hyperphagia.
The bears know that they need the nourishment that salmon offers to make it thru the hard winter months. Their focus on food determines their winter survival.
Just as Bear rely on salmon for survival, we need to rely on Jesus- The Bread of Life- who offers living nourishment day by day. He alone is our life- sustainer for each day and eternity.
We know that Jesus gives us complete nourishment for the hard days that come our way. We pray that our focus and need is so strong it will put us in hyperphagia – consuming His Word and relying on Jesus as we go about our day.
John 6:35 tells us:
“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty .”
We at KBM pray that our focus is completely on the One that provides. We are thankful that Jesus is the Bread of Life, so that we will never be hungry or thirsty.
Focus on Jesus.
Feed on His Word.
Thankful for His Word.
